Preparing for your session

  • Location

Our area offers some of the best scenery around. If you’re looking for amazing spots nearby, let me know and I’ll be happy to give you some ideas!

Think of places that speak to your personalities best, and are accessible for everyone involved. ILP also has a stunning natural light studio in Beaumont, Texas.

  • Timing

Outdoor sessions are generally held 1-1.5 hours before sunset.

Studio sessions generally take place between the morning and early afternoon.

  • What to bring

Water, snacks, whatever you need to keep everyone happy!

For the girls, make up for touch ups. Four legged friends are more than welcome (if they play nice and our location allows pets!)

  • Preparation

To avoid last minute stress, make sure to pick out all family outfits & props well in advance.

If your outfits are new make sure your kids have a chance to wear them a couple of times before the day so that they’ll be comfortable during the shoot.

  • It's All in the Details

Your clothing selection & choice of location will make the biggest difference in the final feel and look of your photos!

Feel free to message me with photos of your clothing options and I will be happy to advise as needed.

ILP also has a client closet with clothing options available for Mommas and newborn to 12 month littles.

Here’s a few helpful guidelines to follow,

  • Go for warm neutrals, jewel or muted tones

  • Choose complimentary colors that make your skin, eyes, and hair pop

  • Avoid busy patterns

  • Think layers and movement

  • Wardrobe Tip # 1

Don’t match, coordinate. Pick a color combination for your family to work within. We don’t want everyone to match perfectly or wear nothing but a single color, but we also don’t want everyone wearing different colors and patterns.

  • Wardrobe #2

Don’t be too seasonal. While the idea of outfits for the season may be appealing, our aim is to produce photos that you can display in your home year round!

Unless you live on the north pole, Christmas only really works once a year.

  • Wardrobe tip #3

Avoid too busy patterns, go for earth tones, textures, and solid colors. These are the most classic & timeless and will guarantee your outfits are still in style years from now, rather than a trend!

It’s also best to aim for layers in your clothing to provide visual interest and movement (especially for the girls! Dresses or a flowy shawl etc.)

  • Wardrobe Tip #4

Fitted = best. While flowy articles of clothing for the girls is fantastic, in general with pants + shirts for the boys, aim for fitted clothing that is in on the tighter end of what you would normally wear. Avoid baggy jeans or loose fitting shirts etc.

  • Wardrobe Tip #5

We want your session to be enjoyable and fun for everyone involved. If your kid’s clothing is uncomfortable for them to wear, it won’t be nearly as fun. If you’re planning outfits outside of what they are used to, I’d suggest “breaking them in” a few days in advance to get them used to the feeling of wearing those clothes.
